Friends and Neighbors,

It is my sincere hope this blog helps bring transparency to government and sparks an interest in other residents to stand up and serve their neighbors. As I have found, the honor of being your first ward representative is a rewarding and learning experience. Please note as of 1/1/12 Eric Hammerle is your new town councilor. I do not plan to update the blog as of 1/1/12 unless I see a pressing issue which requires attention. Thank you to those who have followed this blog and for all your kind words regarding my two years of service to the town. I wish Eric the best of luck.

DEADLINE HAS EXPIRED AS OF 4/4/11 TO COMPLETE THE SURVEY FOR THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT

The Town of Camillus Parks and Recreation Department is currently in the process of creating a 5 Year Master Plan. This plan will be used in determining the growth, direction, priorities and agenda for the Department in the near future.

In order for the Master Plan to reflect the sentiment of the community, an online survey has been created that asks residents to provide their opinion in regards to Town of Camillus parks, facilities, programs and potential capital projects. The short survey WAS available online at the following website link:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/camillus-parks-and-rec-survey. The survey WAS AVAILABLE online until APRIL 4th. If there are any questions in regards to the survey, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 487-3600.

Once the results of the survey are tabulated, they will be used in conjunction with a needs analysis, a review of demo graphical data, input from local youth sports organizations, and comparisons to state and national standards in determining goals and objectives for the department. The plan will allow the department to most effectively allocate its resources for the maximum benefit to residents and prove to be a valuable tool in the grant application process.

Key Meeting Dates are Monday 10/24 at 5pm at Shove Park,

Tuesday 10/25 at 5pm at town hall, Tuesday 11/10 at 7pm at town hall and Tuesday 11/22 at 7pm at town hall to review the Master Parks Plan and ultimately have the town board vote on same.

Are you the next Town Councilor?

As a few of you might already be aware, I have made the decision to not seek re-election.

On September 18, 2009, I posted to my blog the statement, "Healthy competition for these seats will foster better decision making for those lucky enough to have the privilege of serving the community." Citizens should be encouraged to step forward and serve the community, even if just for a brief period of time. I feel good about the fact that I put my efforts out there for all to see, in an open book fashion through this blog. The point all along has been to enable residents to be fully informed and for those interested in getting involved, to have an avenue to understand the issues. In my opinion (and others will surely disagree), part of my role for the next year should be to assist anyone interested in serving his or her community. I should not hold onto this position for myself. In my opinion, if I have given my all to the position, isn't it time for someone new to step up and have the chance to do the same? While I appreciate the emails and calls of encouragement to consider a second term, in fairness to the community and in the spirit of trying to bring about the much needed change in government to avoid habitual decision making, with all due respect, I believe that a greater good can be achieved by setting an example and LEAVING office. I do hope each one of you will consider taking up the challenge of serving in town government, or encouraging a neighbor to do so.
